News 2012
Team News U16 Football - we played 3 round games in this years U16 Football B Championship and won all 3 and qualified top of the goup and played Kilruane in the quarter final. They won this game and faced Inane Rovers in the semi-final who proved too strong for our lads. We put up a good show and all can be very proud of their display - thanks very much to Sean Dunne who came in to help out Donal & the lads for our football championship - his experience proved vital at times and with a bit of luck the result of the semi final could have been differnt. U14 Foodball - we only played 2 games and gave the game to Inane after a mix up in fixtures as we had qualified for a quarter final spot. We are still awaiting opponents from Group 2. U12 In the North Football Final on Saturday last (May 12) we defeated Borris-ileigh in what was a very close and exciting game. Borrisoleigh went 2 goals up within five minutes of the start, but the Mines showed great spirit to get back to within a single point by half time with the score at 1-2 to 2-0. The second half saw some great football played by both sides, the Mines were a point up heading towards the final whistle, but Borrisoleigh managed to get an equaliser to draw the game at full time at 1-6 to 2-3. Extra time was played which saw the Mines score 1-1 in the first half but the drama was not over, Borrisoleigh came out strong in the second 5 minutes of extra time, but the character of the Mines stood up to the challenge, Borris got a penalty but Joe Keyes pulled off an amazing save in the Mines goal, the next passage of play saw the Darragh Cleere in the Mines defence clear the ball which ended up with Darragh Nolan sealing the win with a goal, resulting in Diarmaid Fitzpatrick having the honour as Captain to receive the cup. If there was a prize on the day for player of the match, it would have to go to Oisin Murphy whose performance was mighty. This was a huge team effort by the entire panel of players involved, well done to all: Joseph Keyes, Hughie Leamy, Darragh Cleere, Darragh McKelvey, Ciaran Timmons, Darragh Nolan, Sean Spillane, Oisin Murphy, Shaun Hogan, Diarmuid Fitzpatrick, Fionn Ryan Mulqueen, Bill Maher, Cathal Delaney, Ronan Clifford – Team Mentors Declan Nolan & James Haydren Hurling championship : Our U12 games are starting on 1 June 2012 and we will have games weekly for at least 7 weeks.
